Introduction Letter

Abstract

The formal introduction letter provides the professor with a formal introduction to the student. The letter provides background information on myself like previous schooling as well as some achievements I have attained one being a certification as a medical assistant. The letter also addresses my interest in the sciences as this class is geared toward writing for the sciences. I explain my plans after college and a career plan I hope to follow. Also, I address the relevancy of science to my life and the world around me stating the many discoveries and breakthroughs that occur. The last paragraph outlines my goals for the semester which include improving my writing abilities, improving research tactics and improving my creation of bibliographies and annotated bibliographies.

Dear Professor Coppola,

My name is Steven Samaroo and I am a freshman at CCNY pursuing a degree in biology. I was born in the Bronx and moved to Queens where I have lived ever since. My educational background consists of the traditional elementary school, middle school and high school but my high school experience was unique as my high school was a career and technical high school where I was taught a specific field to eventually become certified in. The field I became certified in was Medical Assisting. I am now a certified medical assistant and can work as a medical assistant if I choose to. This certification and interest in the medical field has stemmed from my interest in science and has influenced my desire to become a doctor.

I find science very fascinating ever since I was young, I have always been interested in science and different fields of science. After obtaining my biology degree, I plan to pursue medical school and become a sports physician. After medical school, I must go through residency for my specific field which may last over 6 years. I have always loved sports as I played a lot growing up and due to my interest in science and wanting to become a doctor, I decided a field related to sports medicine would best interest me. I have had influences on my interest in science. My mother is a certified medical assistant so that further influenced me to pursue the field of science, mainly the medical field. Also my grandfather was a science teacher so I have always been exposed to science growing up whenever I would stay over at his house. The only form of science I dislike is chemistry. In high school I took chemistry and the teacher did not do a great job at teaching so I struggled learning the topics. I passed the class but the experience was boring and it always made me dislike chemistry.

Science has a huge relevancy to my life and the world around me. Science has always been an important part of my life as well as a fascinating one. I have always been interested in anything regarding science specifically the human body. Science is also very relevant to the world at large as there are so many scientific discoveries and breakthroughs occurring every day that can further help or change someone’s life. I think that it is fascinating that a discovery can have such a major impact on someone or a population at large.

My goals for this semester include further improving my writing skills. Writing has always been one of my weak points and I have wanted to improve it. Ever since elementary school, I have always struggled to write essays as it has always been boring to me and I never saw a purpose. I always saw essays as something to get past in order to receive my grade. However, now I have been taking essays more seriously and have been looking to improve my writing abilities. I have been getting better writing more fluently and avoiding simple grammatical mistakes. I hope this class will further improve on the skills I have been developing when it comes to writing. I also hope to learn the specifics for writing when it comes to the science field as they follow different rules. I also hope for this class to further increase my ability to conduct research and validate sources for their credibility. I want to be improve my ability to cite information in my essays and create proper bibliography and annotated bibliographies.

Sincerely,

Steven Samaroo
